Meet Our Instructors

Tyler Brewer

Tyler Brewer is the owner and CEO of Amber Waves Diving Company.  Tyler has over thirty years of law enforcement and teaching experience.  Tyler is currently the Chief of a Public Safety Department, which is responsible for police, fire and rescue services for more than 144 square miles of South Central Kansas.  Tyler is a Master Scuba Diving Trainer and an Emergency First Response Instructor. 

In addition to teaching all levels of SCUBA divers, and teaching Emergency First Response, Tyler also teaches law enforcement, business and management courses.

Tim Follis

Tim is a Lieutenant with the Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS), serving as both a police officer and firefighter, for more than 20 years.  Tim is responsible for supervision and training of the ADPS fire division personnel and has been trained as an Emergency Medical Technician in the past.  In addition, Tim has an extensive teaching/training background with several instructor certifications and teaching firefighting, rescue, rope rescue and other emergency functions to students.  Tim is one of our EFR instructors.

Chad McCluskey

Chad is a Sergeant and police K9 handler for the Augusta Department of Public Safety, having been with the department for more than 18 years. Chad is also one of our EFR instructors and was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the past.  Chad has an extensive teaching/training background also and is a law enforcement instructor, field training officer, police K9 instructor, and a part-time instructor for both Cowley College and Butler Community College.  He takes care of our information technology at Amber Waves Diving and is the webmaster for our websites.

 

Dan Wegner

Dan Wegner is an EFR Instructor and he is a Division Chief on the Sedgwick County Fire Department assigned to Fire Prevention and Investigations. He specializes in teaching technical rescue skills to firefighters.

Derek Highbarger

Derek is a Public Safety Officer with the Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS).  Derek has been teaching first aid and CPR for more than three years and is certified as an instructor for both Emergency First Response and the American Heart Association.  Derek is also in charge of the Firefighter Explorer program with the ADPS where he mentors and teaches teenagers between 14 and 18 all aspects of firefighting to prepare them for a firefighting career as an adult.

Chris Hulett

Chris Hulett is an EFR instructor and an Assistant Instructor with the Amber Waves Dive family, where he helps teach SCUBA to others. His love for life and adventure translates to his love for diving. Chris will keep you laughing and smiling so make sure you keep your regulator in your mouth. He is also FULL SPEED ahead so make sure you eat your Cheerios!

Jon Steibner

Jon Stiebner is an EFR instructor and an Assistant Diving Instructor with our team.  As part of the Amber Waves team, Jon will help you through the Emergency First Response course and teach you all you need to know to save a life.

Steve Atkinson

Steve Atkinson is a PADI Divemaster and an Emergency First Response (CPR and First Aid) Instructor.  Steve is a Captain with the Sedgwick County Fire Department and has real world expiriences to help you best understand what you may encounter and how best to handle Emergency First Response situations.
